Slow cooked 8 hour beef cheeks - gut loving comfort food.

Want to enjoy a comforting, gut loving dish that doesn’t take up so much time in the kitchen.. I have to say beef cheeks are a great one to do this with. I love this cut of meat because I can slow cook them in the oven (my favourite way) or if I don’t have time in the slow cooker both taste amazing I just have a love affair with my oven!!

This cut of meat when slow cooked breaks down the connecting tissues making it easy for you to digest and ontop of that so bloody delicious! The collagen in beef cheeks plays a vital role in supporting gut health by promoting healthy gut lining and reducing inflammation. Not only is this cut of meat great for gut support but high levels of protein, iron, zinc and overall support for strong immune system.

The dishes I’ve created using beef cheeks 🤤 ohh to name a few curries, Mexican and many slow cooked dishes. I’m so glad my butcher can get this in for me, the meat he sells is incredible!! My son hasn’t always been a fan of red meat the last year but since finding this butcher his eating steaks, mince and anything slow cooked beef.

Do your bodies a favour and get onto this cut of meat, I promise it’ll be worth it.

We enjoyed ours with a cauliflower and potato mash and steamed broccoli by candlelight of course 🕯️ ✨

What you’ll need

1kg beef cheeks

1 leek sliced

2 medium carrots chopped in pieces

3 celery stalk chopped in pieces

2 tsp cumin

1 tsp garlic

2 tsp coriander

Meatstock to cover about 400ml

2 tbsp tomato paste

Celtic salt

Fresh thyme and sage

Equipment:

Slow cooker

Method:

  1. Turn your slow cooker on high and get your vegetables chopped.

  2. Meanwhile add your spices onto your beef cheeks (like a rub) add your salt onto them as well. Then add straight in your slow cooker.

  3. Then add all other ingredients in you can add a little more salt for seasoning and pop lid on. Cook on high for 4 hours then then your slow cooker on low for another 3-4 hours.

  4. You can prepare your other ingredients you want to serve with this meat.

  5. Enjoy 😍

This recipe is great for those, don’t have time need to be out the door kinda dinners done for your weeknight. And what I love most is it makes so much for another dinner. Because it was cooked fresh I’ve frozen the other half to make a nice pasta dish with. Weeknight dinner saved!

Note: you can totally do this on stove top. I would suggest adding the rub with some tapioca flour first, then cook to slightly brown meat before placing into your oven to slow cook.

Would love to hear what you think.
